About 3 weeks ago I had an app-o-rama day in which I applied for five credit cards. I had to wait a couple weeks to get the decision on a couple of them, but I am happy to report that I have a final status for all of the cards now. Here's what ended up happening:
CitiBusiness AAdvantage MasterCard - APPROVED
This one I applied for because American miles are so valuable to me and I was running low. It comes with 30,000 bonus miles after $1,000 spend. Don't plan on using it much after the spend bonus because the CitiBusiness card site is pretty awful (they don't even show pending transactions), but it's a great card if you're trying to add some EQMs to your total.
I was approved for this one immediately.
Capital One Spark Business - PENDING to APPROVED
I applied for Spark because it's a Visa that gets you 2% cashback, which you can't beat. It's going to be a great everyday spend card for me, and the $150 in signup bonuses wasn't too shabby either. I'll consider moving back to this for some of my non-category bonus spend when I am done earning the other signups.
I wasn't immediately approved but I got a decision in the mail a week after I applied informing me I'd been approved. The card came a few days later.
Barclaycard Arrival - PENDING to APPROVED
This card might just beat the Spark card for value. It also earns 2% back in the form of travel points, which erase travel spend on your credit card. The advantage over Spark is that you get a 10% refund of all points you spend. The 40,000 point signup bonus after $1,000 spend wasn't displeasing either. I met the minimum spend quickly and the points posted to my account the same day my final transaction did.
I wasn't immediately approved for this card so I called the Barclaycard reconsideration number (888-232-0780). The rep I spoke with said I couldn't get approved for the card outright, but if I was willing to move some line from one of my US Airways cards he could approve me. I don't use those cards so I was happy to.
Amex Platinum - PENDING to APPROVED
I used the Ameriprise link to get the $0 first-year annual fee instead of the normal $450. To my surprise it worked without a hitch and I even received documentation showing a $0 annual fee for the year. I won't be putting any spend on this card but it is fantastic to have for airport lounge access, TSA PreCheck reimbursement, the $200 annual airline credit, and Starwood Gold. Not to mention it just looks cool.
This card apparently entered a glitch in American Express' system because of the number of cards I'd applied for of late. It required a few calls to get to someone who could actually help me with my application. The person who finally did help me said the computer system was down and it would be 48 hours before my application would be decisioned. I received an email two days later saying I was approved.
Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Business - DECLINED
I wanted this card because the signup bonus is 50,000 points right now, compared to the usual 25,000.
I called Chase after receiving a decline and they indicated they were willing to move some credit from an existing line I have. I agreed to do this, and the rep put me on hold. When she returned she said that I had a lot of spend on my other business card, Ink, with Amazon Payments. She asked for an explanation and when I gave it to her she said I wasn't spending enough on that card so they didn't see any reason to give me an additional one. She said if I started spending on Ink I could call back and chat with someone again.
